The Camino de Santiago has been a sacred pilgrimage for centuries, guiding countless travelers toward spiritual renewal. Pilgrims walk its paths not just to reach a destination, but to reflect, repent, and grow in faith.
One of the most beautiful aspects of this journey is the sense of community. Along the way, fellow travelers greet each other with "Buen Camino!"—a blessing that means "Good path!" Pilgrims also carry a passport, receiving stamps at key points along the way as a sign of their progress. At the journey’s end, they exchange their passports for a certificate, marking their completion of the pilgrimage.
This Lent, I invite you to embark on your own pilgrimage—not to Spain, but in your heart and life. Our Lenten journey will be shaped by personal prayer and reflection, as well as three communal services (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday) and three Soup & Devotion gatherings. For those unable to attend in person, all gatherings will be livestreamed.
To mark our journey, each time you attend, you will receive a sticker. Those who complete all six gatherings will be awarded a Pilgrimage Certificate on Easter Sunday—a reminder of the path we have walked together. Your attendance, whether in person or online, will count toward your sticker and pilgrimage completion.
This past Sunday, we celebrated Transfiguration Sunday—a glimpse of Christ’s glory before the suffering of the cross. This vision gave His disciples the strength to press on, knowing how the story would end. You can read our full reflections here: Joyce’s message I Victor’s message.
Our first gathering is "Ash Wednesday Service" this week—March 5 at noon at Houlton UMC. As we begin this Lenten pilgrimage, may God grant us the grace to see from His perspective, to realign our steps with His will, and to journey with renewed faith and purpose.
Buen Camino!
Pastor Victor
