Life Together - Oct 10

Peace to you.

I hope you are doing well.

The other day, I had the opportunity to visit Liz Taylor, a beloved member of Houlton UMC. Though she didn’t recognize who I was, she remembered every lyric of her favorite hymns. Together, we sang “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling,” “Spirit Song,” and “Lord, You Have Come to the Lakeshore”—songs she used to sing in beautiful alto harmony. I went to encourage her, but as I left, I realized that I was the one uplifted.

Even though Liz may not remember us by name anymore, the love of Christ still reaches her heart—through Nell’s weekly harp visits, the Women’s Group’s caring visits, and Bob’s comforting quilt blanket. Each simple act of love brightens her day—and ours too.

In the same way, this past Sunday Roberta and Sharon, our friends from Gardiner, joined us for worship at Houlton. Joyce saw them again during her Bible study at Gardiner this morning, and they shared how last Sunday’s service and fellowship were the highlight of their week. Truly, it was a mutual blessing—their joy and hunger for God lifted our spirits as much as we hoped to encourage them.

As a family church pursuing intergenerational ministry, we recognize that seniors in our community are an important part of our mission field. We are looking for a few “angels” who can offer a ride to some of our Gardiner friends who wish to join us for Sunday worship. If you’re able to help, please let Linda Maraya or me know.

Thank you for being part of our beloved community.

Have a joyful weekend, and see you Sunday!

In Christ's love,
Pastor Victor
