Life Together - July 25

“For he is our peace; in his flesh he has made both groups into one and has broken down the dividing wall, that is, the hostility between us.”

— Ephesians 2:14 (NRSV)

Peace to you, dear church family,

“It was the best conference ever!”
That’s what Joyce said — and I couldn’t agree more.

This week, my family and I attended the Korean Clergy Family Conference of the Northeast Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church, held in Boston. Every part of the gathering — from worship and seminars to small group sessions and meal fellowships — was deeply meaningful, edifying, and uplifting.

During one small group, a colleague shared honestly, “Nowadays, I feel tension and drained every time I attend other UMC gatherings. But this… this is so good.” We met with no agenda or issues to solve. We simply met person to person, heart to heart. We shared our midlife struggles, family and church challenges, call stories, joys, and fears. And in that space, I saw a glimpse of real hope.

For me, Ephesians 2 came alive: Jesus is still at work. He is still breaking down walls of hostility. He is still bringing peace. He is still creating one people out of many. I witnessed an extraordinary miracle of love in a very ordinary place.

Our God is able.

My prayer is that, as we gather to worship and fellowship this Sunday, we may encounter this living Jesus — the Prince of Peace — in a deeply personal way.

’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus!
